Let's Get Started!

Quoteonmlb_03262008bI am up... 5:00 AM Central Time. Why? Because I am a baseball fan. My wife thinks I am nuts, but I have been craving baseball for so long, there was no other choice. I will only get to watch for an hour and a half or so because I start work at 7:00 AM, but it will be a nice way to welcome the day... and the 2008 season.  What a great scene! I may have to do the same thing tomorrow!

To make this post somewhat Brewers related, I read that the Brewers are making initial plans to offer multi year contracts to Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. Braun's offer, I get. Fielder's, I do not. Again, I may be pessimistic, but I do not see Fielder wanting to stay in Milwaukee beyond his arbitration years. So why "waste" a ton of money on him, when he will likely leave anyways. The obvious benefit is buying out his arbitration years, but I do not see Scott Boras letting that happen. I hope I am wrong and maybe Prince wants to be a lifelong Brewer who is gullible enough to "give away" his arbitration years, but I do not see it happening. I would rather (and I can't believe I am saying this) offer Ben Sheets an extension before I offer Fielder a multi year deal. At least Sheets seems to like Milwaukee (heck, he is a part owner of the Milwaukee Admirals), and we all know how good he can be IF he stays healthy. Just my two cents this early Tuesday morning.

I too, was super happy to see baseball on at 5 a.m. Although the snow blowing around, reminded me that spring is still not quite here.

my my brother those are the real baseball fan god bless you and your brewers.cause im a cubs fan from nashvilee.in brewers farm team country .so all i have to say is play ball.

I agree!

go cards

I love baseball too, but this is ridiculous. On the west coast this makes no sense. I try to stay up till 3am to watch a local team, but I need to sleep at some point. This doesn't work out. Why don't they have a day game? Wouldn't that make it some what reasonable? 9pm western 12am eastern or something like that? At least one of the games so the west coast has a chance to watch the games.... and THERE TEAM!!??

Sorci,

I can not disagree with you even a little bit. If the Brewers were on at 3:00 AM I would be furious. I would prefer to live on the west coast most other times, because I could watch every game and still go to bed at a normal time, but a situation like this would stink. They are replaying the games later in the day, but good luck not finding out anything about it by the time the replay begins.

Thanks for the comment... sorry you are getting screwed out of baseball like you are!

I think it's crazy. So the players get bribed into going & the A's get compensated for giving up a home game. What about the people who sell concessions, park cars, etc. These folks only get paid when there's a home game. If you want to spread baseball around...do a game in New Orleans, or Las Vegas, or somewhere in America that doesn't have a team. Tokyo? Who's economy are helping?

that's a true fan.
I'd do that for my angels anyday.

this is going to be a fantastic season.

Folks... I never thought about the economic impact of the game. I used to be an usher at County Stadium, so I would have been upset. But currently I am just a baseball fan who thought it was cool to wake up to baseball to go along with my coffee and eggs. Next time I will think of the social, economic, and political impact of the game before commenting.... at 5:00 in the morning, I just was not thinking of these things. Sorry!

Steve

I was lucky enough to catch most of the game Tuesday morning. I had to miss today's game though (on a date that didn't get me home to almost 4 am). I don't agree with the games in Japan for several reasons. Most of which were mentioned. Don't be so hard on yourself for not thinking about the economic issues surrounding these games. Who can blame you for being excited about baseball?! Good luck to all of you and your teams this year.

Go Tigers!
